Pregones Theater proudly presents Enid Alvarez: Puerto Rico Series, a photographic exhibit curated by Bronx-based and critically acclaimed EN FOCO, a non profit dedicated to cultural diversity in photography.  EN FOCO is also known as publisher of the photographic journal Nueva Luz, serving as a showcase for the work of contemporary artists of Latino, African, Asian, and Native American heritage. The exhibit opening on October 3rd is an event of Pregones Theater’s First Wednesdays series, a collaboration with the Bronx Council on the Arts Culture Trolley.

ABOUT ENID ALVAREZ
Artist Statement
As a Puerto Rican artist, I feel it is necessary for me to portray images that capture beauty in my culture. My work is part of a spiritual search, an exploration to fill a void, to discover what is missing, to describe something that I cannot express, but that I feel. My goal is to create an experience unique for each viewer. My intent is to connect the observer with a time and place they may have forgotten, and to evoke a sense of nostalgia. I began documenting my roots in 1998. With my camera I am discovering my culture in a way that I wanted but did not understand in my youth. It excites me to create a means of rediscovery for myself and each viewer.
