THE PLAY
Blanco is a haunting science-fiction comedy set in a future empire of excellence. Two men... their desire... their duty: to guard the entrance to a fantasy land where beauty and perfection are the only standards. Commander One and Soldier Other belong to the elite military guard trained in the most rigorous aesthetic principles of theri beloved land and chosen to stand guard at a remote desert post. Together they foil the entrance of Him, a non-aesthetic being.
ABOUT THE COLLABORATION
Blanco emerged out of Pregones Theater's Asunción Playwrights Project. Selected as one of the project's 2004 finalists, the play won the competition and was workshoped at Pregones during the 2005 season. After a brief sold-out run, Teatro IATI came on board as co-producer and staged the world premiere of the play as part of their 2006 Spring Season at their new theater on East 4th Street in New York. Afterwards, the production was selected to participate in the Festival Temporales in Puerto Montt, Chile to much acclaim.
