Multicultural Music Encounters X

We are proud to welcome our neighbors, The Multicultrual Music Group, in this unique series of concerts and panels at Pregones.

In line with their mission to promote social justice projects through music commissions created to depict, resemble, or illustrate a historical event in a particular culture, this series highight Dominican and Puerto Rican events.

Over the course of three nights, Ray Santos, Juan Dolón and Desmar Guevara present original musical compositions inspired by events that have made an impact on Latin American history.

The presentations consists of two parts: the concert performance of the commissioned works, and a panel discussion. Scholars and experts on each of the historical events will be part of the panels moderated by Dr. Luis Mojica.

The concerts fature the MMG Orchestra together with the Bronx Arts Ensemble.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 1937

Based on the genocide of the Haitian workers in October 1937 - Parsley Massacre. Music by Juan Colón (Juan Luis Guerra's Musical Director). Conducted by Luis Columna.

THE BORINQUENEERS
SAT. JUNE 9 @ 8:00 PM
Inspired by the controversial events around the 65th Infantry of Puerto Rican soldiers. Composed and conducted by Ray Santos (5-time Grammy Award Winner and Academy Award Nominee for the "Mambo Kings").
