Pregones Theater's Asunción Playwrights Project showcases the work of Latina and Latino playwrights exploring issues of difference and transformation at the limits of queer identity.

 

The project fosters fun and genuine dialogue between playwrights, theatermakers, LGBTQ communities, and a general audience.

THE IDES OF MARCH

Alejandro is training his lover Néstor for a race. Alejandro is anxiously waiting for Néstor to be rescued from the burning towers. Alejandro remembers Néstor and burns with longing. Alejandro's heart is violently torn from his chest by a memory. Alejandro finds Néstor in the backrooms of memory.

Marisela, Alejandro's daughter, is worried about the old man. He talks to himself a lot more now. She would like him to move in with her. Susan, Alejandro's best friend, knows better. Alejandro is running the last mile of everlasting love.

Performed in English. For mature audiences.

Winner of Pregones Theater's 2010 Asunción Playwrights Competition.
