Pregones Theater's Asunción Playwrights Project showcases the work of Latina and Latino playwrights exploring issues of difference and transformation at the limits of queer identity.

 

The project fosters fun and genuine dialogue between playwrights, theatermakers, LGBTQ communities, and a general audience.

LA CASA DE OCASO
by Ricardo Pérez González
A modern, transgendered exploration of Lorca's La Casa de Bernarda Alba. The play picks up, in a sense, where Lorca's left off, in the apartment of the drag artist Bernardo Ocaso, lover of the recent suicide Pepe Romano. As the play progresses we discover why and how Pepe, a preoperative transgendered woman, killed herself.

LA LUZ DE UN CIGARRILLO - Cuento de una familia Dominican-York by Marco Antonio Rodríguez
Despues de cinco años de ausencia un hijo regresa al alto Manhattan por la muerte de su padre. En el transcurso de dos noches madre e hijo chocan y batallan por sus identidades, su amor mutuo y el aprecio por sus raices dominicanas. Pero la inesperada revelación de secretos atentan romper el ya debilitado vínculo.

Alejandro, an elderly Puerto Rican painter living in San Francisco is starting to experience memory lapses while trying to preserve the images of his dead lover and his sense of dignity in front of his daughter and a devoted friend. The play situates us inside his increasingly fragmented world.

transgender spin. Jacqui, a butch Chicana lesbian falls in love with Katrina, an immigrant Salvadoran transgender woman. It isn't long before the complexities of attraction, sex, and gender open up to the hot-button issue of marriage .
