ALOHA BORICUA ENCORE RUN • REGRESA A PETICION POPULAR "I was reminded of the Broadway production of Hair combined with the rogue and bold style of Bertolt Brecht a la Cabaret. Only this is a Boricua production full of island culture, nuance and flavor, from bomba and plena, bacalao and avena, to alcapurrias, coquí and, of course, revolution." - Sandra María Esteves. The rhythms of traditional Puerto Rican music and urban reggaetón collide in this song-driven rendition of the historic migration of Puerto Ricans to Hawaii. Adapted from Vivir del cuento, by legendary writer and gay icon Manuel Ramos Otero, the production weaves the voices of multiple generations, including the sugar cane workers who first embarked on a transoceanic trip in 1900 to Hawaiian Queen Liliuokalani to today’s street-wise poets, and makes sense of it all in 2010. Presented in Spanish & English with titles! Conceived and directed by Jorge B. Merced, with non-stop live music composed and arranged by Merced, Desmar Guevara and the ensemble. Additional music and lyrics by Rosalba Rolón. Featuring ensemble actors Shadia Almasri, Sol Crespo, Yaraní del Valle, Erickson Huertas, Indio Meléndez, Omar Pérez, and musicians Anthony Carrillo, Jorge Castro, Desmar Guevara, and Pucho Alamo. Sets and costumes by Harry Nadal. Lights by Esteban Lima. Digital Projections by Jorge "Fish" Rodríguez.
